A lean mixture (too small jet) can result in overheating which can lead to catastrophic piston or engine seizure whereas a too rich mixture will not cause engine damage but will result in poor performance and a cool engine combustion temperature.

By measuring and monitoring the exhaust temperature you can see whether your engine is running lean or rich and easily make carburettor adjustments and achieve optimal engine performance.
Ideally you need to aim for around a steady 650 degrees at prolonged full throttle.

The temperature is measured and displayed in real time and incorporates a warning light which can indicate at a preset temperature to warn of any impending failure.

Please note this is a digital gauge which responds in real time and far superior to the analogue gauges which often do not respond quickly enough to predict a seizure until after it has happened!
