The Piaggio Fly was introduced in 2005 and was marketed as an upgrade from Piaggio's base model the Zip
In 2012 new versions of the Fly were released, the new version featured a new body design with a larger capacity for storing luggage and new engine configurations. The Piaggio Fly is sold as either 50cc or 125cc in the UK. 50cc versions of the Fly were sold with Piaggio's HI-PER2 2-stroke engine until 2012 or 4-stroke HI-PER4 engine (both air-cooled). In 2012 the 2-stroke versions of the Fly was swatted and a 4-valve version of the previous 2-valve 50cc 4-stroke HI-PER4 engine Fly was released. 125cc versions of the Fly featured a 4-stroke 2-valve air-cooled engine until 2012 when the Fly was released with a 3-valve engine. Piaggio's Fly use 12 inch wheels in conjunction with a front hydraulic disc brake and rear cable-operated drum brake.
