The Piaggio Zip is the most popular 50cc scooter in the UK today.
Piaggio have been producing a scooter with the Zip name since the early 90's. In 2000 a new shape Zip was introduced and production continues today. Zips are produced with a 50cc engine as either a 2-stroke or 4-stroke. 2-stroke versions of the Zip use a short HI-PER2 engine produced by Piaggio. 50cc 2-stroke models of Zip have been produced with either air-cooled or liquid-cooled engines. Liquid-cooled versions of the zip carry the name Zip SP, Zip SPs have restyled body work over air-cooled models but many of the parts from the SP can be used on air-cooled models. Zip SPs use a single-sided leading-link front suspension system whereas air-cooled models use telescopic twin forks. All Zips use 10 inch wheels in conjunction with a front hydraulic disc brake and rear cable-operated drum brake.
